The Van Gogh Museum had a Pokémon Pop-Up

How pleasantly surprised was I to see the Pokémon pop-up at the Van Gogh Museum. As it was my first time in Amsterdam, I wanted to visit some notable museums. The Van Gogh Museum was top on my list as a great opportunity to see some of his paintings in real life.

I didn’t think much of it when I first booked my Van Gogh museum tickets online. I actually had no idea that they had the special exhibit. As we entered through the first gift shop, I saw a glassed display showcasing Pikachu with some of the popular branded merchandise. I thought, okay that is cute.

We went through the first floor exhibits and there were no Pokémon to be found. It wasn’t until we made it to the second floor where there was a display of the adorable Pokémon. On the yellow wall, there were five adorable paintings in the style of Van Gogh inspired by his paintings:

Pikachu inspired by Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat

Eevee inspired by Self-Portrait with Straw Hat

Smeargle inspired by Self-Portrait as a Painter

Corviknight inspired by Wheatfield with Crows

Munchlax & Snorlax inspired by The Bedroom

The special Pokémon exhibit was adorable and fun

To celebrate the museum’s 50th anniversary, there was a Pokémon collaboration. I know, it sounds crazy but it works. I was so pleasantly surprised to see our little friend painted in the iconic Van Gogh style. There was a featured gallery showing a variety of Pokémon inspired by the painter. Of course, the gift shop also had the Pokémon collaboration for purchase. Unfortunately, the Pokémon exhibit ended in early Jan 2024.
