Flora Room | Restaurant Review

Flora Room Menu

Located in the old Marvel Bar location, tucked down a dead-end and behind a dumpster, is the newest speakeasy, Flora Room. Visitors enter through the heavy exterior door, down the stairs to another unmarked and heavy door. The fluorescent lights are blinding like being in a sketchy operations room or parking lot stairwell. Nothing says speakeasy like maybe getting tetanus.

Once inside, the stark contrast to darkness is almost equally blinding as your eyes adjust to the shadows and chatter of people. It is first come, first serve so you need to look out for an open table illuminated only by a single tea light. The bar sits along the left side of the room, with driftwood and plants lining the wall. On the right, is an imaginary greenhouse, with glass paneling separating from the main room and featuring overhead lighting as if from the sun.

The walls in that section are filled with moss and greenery. I would expect nothing less from a place advertising flora. Seating is low and velvety. It creates that subtle luxury because you sure can’t enjoy looking at it, because it is so dark.

The menus are small leather-bound booklets. Each drink is beautifully described that there is a fun cocktail for everyone. Of course, there are also beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks to choose from. You can also try some limited snack options which you will not be disappointed by.

Flora Room

The vibe: Intimate but noisy.  It feels like a cozy and intimate experience based on the size, but you may have a hard time seeing and hearing your party.
